Honors & Awards

For the third year, UC Davis honored those on campus advancing the research, teaching, and service mission of UC Davis through their international engagement with Chancellor’s Awards for International Engagement. This year’s faculty and staff awardees—who span agricultural and resource economics, emergency medicine, history, and human resources—were recognized by Chancellor Gary S. May for their outstanding international engagement at the International Connections Reception hosted by Global Affairs on March 7.

Christine Stewart has been selected to receive the 2018 Norman Kretchmer Memorial Award in Nutrition and Development. This American Society for Nutrition (ASN) award is given to a young investigator for a substantial body of independent research in the field of nutrition and development with potential relevance to improving child health.

The Food and Nutrition Board of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine welcomes Dr. Kathryn Dewey for a three-year term starting from 2017 to 2020.

Distinguished Professor Emeritus Kenneth Brown received the “Robert Suskind and Leslie Lewinter-Suskind Pediatric Nutrition Lifetime Achievement Award” from the American Society for Nutrition at Experimental Biology 2017 in Chicago. The award recognizes a researcher whose lifetime body of work includes meaningful contributions towards childhood nutrition in health and disease globally.

Hanqi Luo, UC Davis PhD Candidate of PICN and Epidemiology, won the best poster and $500 in the IC-FOODS conference Data/Information/ Visualization at IC-Foods new International Conference + Consortium + Center for Food Ontology, Operability, Data and Semantics held Nov 7-9th, 2016 at UC Davis. Hanqi’s poster was titled “The Development of a Dietary Model to Predict the Effect of Micronutrient Interventions in Cameroon.”

Muzi Na, a postdoctoral scholar at the PICN, won 1st place in the Elevator Pitch Contest on Micronutrient Innovation and Entrepreneurship, October 24, 2016. The Contest was held in Cancun, Mexico as part of the annual International Micronutrient Forum.

The Micronutrient Forum Mathile Institute Award for Career Achievement in Evidence Translation was awarded to Dr. Lindsay Allen, USDA-ARS Director of the Western Human Nutrition Research Center (WHNRC) and Research Professor at UC Davis. The award was presented at the Micronutrient Forum global conference in Cancun, Mexico, 24 – 28 October 2016.

Research on moringa by PICN seminar speaker Dr. Carrie Waterman was the focus of Amy Beaudreault’s Blog on the Huffington Post. Dr. Waterman is a National Institutes of Health Fogarty International Career Development Grant recipient at UC Davis.

Dr. Md Iqbal Hossain, an alumni of the Graduate Group in Nutritional Biology and the Program in International and Community Nutrition at UC Davis, has been awarded the International Healthcare Award. The award was presented in a recently held International Conference on Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatobiliary Transplant and Nutrition, February 11-14, 2016 in Jaipur, India.

At the 65th Nobel Laureate Meeting in Lindau Germany, the PICN post-doctoral research fellow, Maxwell Barffour, received the Young Scientist Award in recognition of his research and interest in malaria, anemia and micronutrient status.

The UC Global Health Institute (UCGHI) has announced the 2014-2015 cohort of UCGHI GloCal Health Fellows. Two PICN students, Kendra Byrd and Juliana Haber, were among the recipients.
