Rochelle Werner and Demewoz Haile Woldegebreal Recognized as Finalists for the American Society for Nutrition’s Emerging Leaders in Nutrition Science Abstract Recognition Award Program

Rochelle Werner and Demewoz Haile Woldegebreal have been named as finalists in the topic areas of (1) Global Nutrition and (2) Nutritional Epidemiology, respectively, by the Emerging Leaders in Nutrition Science Abstract Recognition Award Program, a program of the American Society for Nutrition (ASN) which recognizes the highest quality research presented by students and young investigators at NUTRITION 2021 LIVE ONLINE.

More than 800 abstracts were submitted by students and postdoctoral fellows and abstracts were rated by more than 450 nutrition scientists. The Emerging Leaders in Nutrition Science Abstract Recognition Award Program aims to recognize the top 15% highest scoring abstracts.

Finalists were recognized during NUTRITION 2021 LIVE ONLINE, the American Society for Nutrition’s annual scientific event held virtually from June 7-10, 2021. 

Doctoral student Rochelle Werner presented her abstract:  "Evaluation of one egg per day on iron and anemia status among young Malawian children: a randomized controlled trial." She is a fourth year PhD student in the Graduate Group in Nutritional Biology completing a Designated Emphasis in International and Community Nutrition.

Doctoral student Demewoz Haile Woldegebreal presented his abstract: “Simulated Impact of Vitamin A Fortified Sugar on Dietary Adequacy and Association of Usual Sugar Intake with Plasma and Breast Milk Retinol Among Lactating Women in Rural Zambia.” He is a fourth year PhD student in the Graduate Group in Nutritional Biology completing a Designated Emphasis in International and Community Nutrition.
