What is the Designated Emphasis in Global Nutrition?
The Designated Emphasis (DE) in Global Nutrition is a multidisciplinary program of study that integrates expertise in human nutrition science, epidemiology and biostatistics, and social and behavioral sciences to address human nutrition challenges, particularly among populations with limited resources or those at greatest risk for malnutrition in all forms. This work takes places in the US and in other countries.
The mission of the DE in Global Nutrition is to train the next generation of scientists, leaders and critical thinkers to be able to evaluate and tackle nutritional problems affecting lower income communities or disadvantaged groups in the US and globally. Students completing the DE will be equipped for careers that support the Institute for Global Nutrition vision of a world without malnutrition, where all people have the opportunity to thrive.
More information about Designated Emphases at UC Davis is available on the Grad Studies Website.
Who is the program for?
Enrolled doctoral students who wish to gain additional training and experience to complement their degree program.
Prospective students of the DE in Global Nutrition must be admitted into one of the existing graduate groups at UC Davis before applying to the DE. Students who complete the DE receive transcript notation.
